New York City, known for its culinary diversity, is home to some of the best chocolatiers in the world. Here is a selection of the city's most renowned chocolatiers, each offering a unique and delicious experience for chocolate lovers. Having lived in this city for more than 14 years, and being originally from Côte d'Ivoire (by far the leading cocoa producer), I decided to find out about the best chocolatiers New York had to offer.
1. Jacques Torres Chocolate

Jacques Torres, nicknamed Mr. Chocolate, is a French master chocolatier based in New York. His shops offer a varied range of handcrafted chocolates, truffles, macarons and cookies. The must-haves include the thick, rich hot chocolate, perfect for cold winter days.
2. Mast Brothers Chocolate
Mast Brothers, founded by Michael and Rick Mast, is famous for its chocolate bars made from high-quality cocoa beans. Their bean-to-bar process guarantees an intense, authentic flavour. The Brooklyn shop is also a production site, giving visitors a view of chocolate being made.
3. Li-Lac Chocolates
Founded in 1923, Li-Lac Chocolates is one of the oldest chocolatiers in New York. They are renowned for their traditional recipes and handcrafted methods. Specialities include caramels, truffles and pralines, all made by hand.
4. MarieBelle New York
MarieBelle is known for its artistic, elegant chocolates. Each sweet is a small work of art, with hand-painted designs. Exquisite flavours, such as sea-salt caramel and Earl Grey tea ganache, are presented in beautiful decorative boxes.
5. Fine & Raw

Fine & Raw specialises in raw chocolate, using natural, minimally processed ingredients. Their products are not only delicious but also more nutritious, as they retain the natural nutrients of the cocoa beans. The chocolate bars and truffles are popular with those seeking a healthier option without compromising on taste.
6. Kee's Chocolates
Kee's Chocolates, founded by Kee Ling Tong, is a hidden gem of New York. Each chocolate is handmade in small batches to ensure freshness and quality. The truffles with unique flavours, such as yuzu and green tea, are particularly popular.
7. Teuscher Chocolates of Switzerland
Teuscher, a world-renowned Swiss chocolatier, has a shop in New York where you can taste its famous champagne truffles. The shop offers a varied range of Swiss chocolates, all made from the finest ingredients.
